Day Old Donut

Today we are playing around with self-worth.  I’m clipping coupons with double points to earn my way towards the Exclusive Self-Worth Loyalty Club. Are you a member? How is your self-worth?  Do you feel worthy of all the darn joy that this world has to offer? Is someone or something messing with your worth?  Not on my watch!

“There are two types of people in this world, the givers and the takers. The takers sometimes eat better, but the givers always sleep better.”

- Danny Thomas, Founder of St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital

What is self-worth?  Who determines your self-worth?  Merriam-Webster defined self -worth as, “a feeling that you are a good person who deserves to be treated with respect.”

Aretha Franklin said it best;  R E S P E C T!!!  This means how you treat yourself and how you allow others to treat you.

Consider these common roadblocks to self-worth:

Do you compare yourself to a certain person or standard?

Do you feel taken for granted?

Do you struggle with creating boundaries?

Do you put yourself last on the list?

Do you put your time, energy and resources up for sale for anyone to take?

“We teach people how to treat us.”

- Dr. Phil McGraw

In a perfect world, giving of your time, sharing your talents and serving others can be extremely gratifying.  However, when there is no appreciation or respect, our self worth takes a hit.  Talk about the one, two punch!

When others get something for nothing, it can create an entitlement for future deals.  Let’s face it, we live in a coupon nation.  Do we really know the real sticker price of an item anymore?  We have practiced habits of saving time, saving money and getting a deal.

Are you putting your self-worth in the bargain bin and practically giving away your time, energy and expertise to others who don’t value it?  Talk about the club card that never gives back!  It’s frickin nuts.

“There comes a time when you have to stop crossing oceans for people who wouldn't  jump puddles for you.”

- Author Unknown, but probably wise!

Life is not like that.  If you give all your time, care and energy away….don’t be surprised when your exclusive discount reads, “while supply lasts.”  When you settle for less than you are worth, it becomes a habit, mindset and ultimately a pattern of how you allow people to treat you.

My Dad was known for putting the fear of God into any possible boyfriend that might come to the house.  He wanted to make sure they were worthy.  He taught me that if you lower the bar, don't be surprised with what you get.  Dads know!

Darling, You are Fabulous!

You, my friend, are worth the wait and the anticipation of something beyond fabulous.  Claim back your time with loyalty points for yourself, you don't need a companion fare.

Max out that self-care club card.  Command top-respect for your time, love and energy given to others.  You are not the 50%-off day-old donut. Get yourself off the sale rack and command the life you want.  You are prime, baby. Full price, one of a kind and exquisitely worth it!

Self-worth is what YOU think of yourself.

Self-worth is NOT:

  1. Your occupation
  2. How many friends you have
  3. Your appearance
  4. Your possessions and/or finances
  5. Your finances
  6. Your age or generation
  7. Your love life or relationship
  8. What others think about you

How to raise your self-worth:

  1.  Trust yourself then take action - you know who, what and where make you feel less than.
  2. Let go of things you can’t control.
  3. Consistently talk positively about yourself.
  4. Try new things, learn a new skill.  Fail and fail often...it breeds success.
  5. Invest in yourself.
